Faith in Each Other Part 2
So, last night on the way back from the movies my friends and I were at the bus stop at 125th, and this guy who looks awful familiar comes up and askes for money.Hold on. This is the same guy who told me his daughter was sick and his mother was in the hospital.
What a flipping con. I'm so pissed that someone could so easily take advantage of me.

Faith in Each Other
Two weeks ago I went into the city to hang out with some friends for Halloween. When I got off at 125th Street, the same character was there trying to hussle people for money by asking them if they needed a taxi and then asking for money after flagging down a cab for them.He asked me if I needed a cab. I told him I could get my own and thanked him anyways. He then tried to tell me he's just trying to make an honest living and that he had no money. I reached into my pocket and pulled out $5 gave it to him and asked him to find me a cab.
The next day, I come back to 125th Steet to catch the train home. The same guy is there. And he's making a killing.
I figured I would just let it go. I head up to the track and sit down and wait for the train. A guy comes up, sits down next to me and asks, "How old do you think I am?". He looked late 20's to me and that's what I told him. He proceded to tell me he was 23, his daughter was sick and his mother had gone to the hospital the night before. Okay, I figured out what was coming next and asked what I could do to help. He said he didn't have the money to get there. I asked how much would he need to get to the hospital. He responded that he would also have to get back to 125th Street, so I just handed him a $20.
Now I would seriously like to believe that this young man took the money and really did what he said he was going to with it. We must hold on to our faith in each other.
Another week goes by. Thursday, one of my roommates, who by her account is a super christian, decides to throw stones in a glass house aimed at me. I decided that I'm tired of the hypocrisy and the rent never exactly being on time so I informed her that she needs to find someplace else to live. It's a shame when someones total concept of being an adult is sleeping in the same bed with your boyfriend and making coffee in the morning. Somoene needs a few more years with mom and dad.
Saturday I go back into the city with Elmer and Joe to check out some basses and stuff. On the subway, a guy who was once homeless and hungry gets on and starts passing out sandwiches and clothing to people in need. Not because he's there with an agenda or some over righteous christian sense of nobility, but because it's a good thing to do. He never once spoke of sin, forgiveness, dying, Christ or anything. He told his story and explained that this was his way on the weekends of giving back what had been given to him.
So from a self serving pastors kid brat who can't get past the fact that not everything happens only to her to a man who simply helped people...thank you subway charity man for keeping my faith in humanity alive.
We must hold on to our faith in each other.
