Deporting of the Slaw - First Anniversary

It's been a year since the slaw and her dirty, filthy cats moved out of my apartment.

It's been a year of no cat litter, no hair balls and no rashes.

In memory of the slaw and the double bandit slaw cats, we'll take you on a visual trek down memory lane. Enjoy!

Something New!

Ok, I've completely redesigned the site.

It's all style sheet driven and a little easier for me to manage now.

Tell me what you think.

King Abdullah, Sovereign Ruler of Saudi Arabia

Dear King Abdullah:

I do not expect this letter to ever fall upon your eyes, but I hope against hope your embassy will deliver it to you or relay the contents to you in some fashion

In recent weeks much media attention has flowed around the case of a 19 year old woman who was gang raped and now herself on the verge of punishment via 200 lashes and six months in prison. Generally I do not care myself with the legal affairs of foreign nations, especially those with whom we are supposed to be allies with on a global field. But the extreme nature of this case causes me to write you and ask for you to exert your wisdom and compassion on this case.

Why was she out that night? She was being blackmailed. Apparently over a photo that in the end was nothing to worry over, but how was she to know. In a judicial and social system where what is happening to her now is the normal, she had every right to be afraid. Worried of what this potential evidence might do to her. She was protecting herself when she met to get the photo.

Rape. It is a violation. A violent violation. Whether it be one individual or a group, the aftermath of rape is long lasting and scarring. Compound that by how many men raped her that night. She will never be the same again.

That brings us to where the case is today. She was manipulated by one man and then raped by a gang. Ironically, she is being punished. What does this show the victim? What does it show the world? That pain begets pain? Hurt leads to more hurt?

Now is the time to stop the cycle of violence. Corporal punishment is a horrible thing to inflict upon someone who has already been brutalized. I ask you, please, exercise compassion, show godly love to this woman who is shamed, hurt and broken. Be the light of your nation and lead by a loving and kind example and don’t let the bureaucracy of angry, vengeful men tarnish the reputation of your country on the world stage.

Sincerely,
Woodrow Dee Holbert
